Voices for Children Gala: Feel the Magic

Elegance and originality set the stage for a magical evening during the Voices for Children gala, “Be a Voice, Feel the Magic” at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami. After cocktails and a silent auction, guests were dazzled by Cirque Du Soleil performers with death-defying, high flying silk acrobatics and hand-to-hand balancing acts. with WPLG-Channel 10 news anchor, Laurie Jennings, as the evening’s charming emcee.

The annual gala benefits the Voices for Children Foundation, the fund-raising arm of the 11th Judicial Circuit Guardian Ad Litem Program. This program has saved countless young lives. Two such success stories, sisters Olinda and Carol, told their heart wrenching story of hardship and abuse. But thanks to their Guardian Ad Litem advocate, they overcame their past and are examples of what VFC accomplishes by breaking the cycle of abandonment and abuse.

Many guests stepped up and pledged much needed funds, after which they were entered to win a $5000 shopping spree at Neiman Marcus in Coral Gables. The winner, Adeline Cassin, surprised everyone when she in turn gave her shopping spree to the two sisters. Now that is magic!

The crowd danced the night away to the music of celebrity DJ Kucha, who has appeared on CNN and MTV and flew in from New York to spin at the gala. Gala co-chairs were Veena Panjabi and Aimee Owens.

Event sponsors are  Mandarin Oriental, Miami; Southern Wine & Spirits of South Florida; Cathay Pacific Airways; Jeff and Yolanda Berkowitz; The Continental Group; Florida Power and Light; Ramesh and Veena Panjabi; Michael and Diane Rosenberg; Stearns Weaver Miller Weisller Alhadeff & Sitterson, P.A. and Swire Properties.
