Dear Daisy: “Real Housewives” Style Face-Off

Dear Daisy,
You’re the expert so which of the Real Housewives (from all of the various locations) would you award the title of most worthy trendsetter or purveyor of fine taste and style? How do they all measure up?

Thanks,

Lukas Klessig

Dear Lukas,

I reviewed all the Real Housewives and arrived at the following. It’s similar to the end of a night of too much drinking. It’s about picking the least offensive one from what’s rolling around before you.

The Real Housewives of Orange County: Their fashion cues come from Hooters? No originality: All the same blonde extensions and saffron-orange skin; the same frosted lip gloss & eye shadow (which no one over 15 should wear); and too tight, way too revealing outfits (which no one over 15 should wear).

The Real Housewives of Atlanta: They suffer from many of the same clothing problems as above — but with more screaming — the one tasteful standout is the chic Cynthia Bailey. I think she’s the only one on that show who hasn’t pulled or has had a weave pulled. A record.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Words fail me. How to describe the rich tapestry woven from a carnival of animal prints, plaster statues, faux-Mediterranean meets Pier I-decor with a bucket of insanity that they blame on being Italian. Style? “If youse can’t find it at Poshe boutique, it don’t exist.”

The Real Housewives of DC: (Fascinating. Especially the delusional, train wreck who crashed the White House dinner, Michaele Salahi). I loved fabulous Brit Catherine “Cat” Ommanney. She had great European style yet could disembowel you with three words and never lose her class. Mary Schmidt Amons was elegant as well; from old money and it showed.

The Real Housewives of New York: Countess Luann De Lesseps is chic, fashionable, yet dresses perfectly for her age. She’s never pulled a Ramona, with boobs everywhere, nor pulled a Kelly, wearing a skirt so short you can tell if she’s been to Cindy’s waxing salon or… if she’s due for a visit.

The Real Housewives of Miami: Glam, classic and tasteful Marysol Patton never dressed three sizes too small like Cuban Barbie Alexia; nor too short like Adriana; never wore teensy shorts like Cristy and Larsa. Lea? Her fashion choices were too much, too low, too nutty… and she wore them all at once.

But my pick for Purveyor of Fine Taste and Style is from the cast of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The fabulous Lisa Van der Pump. Another chic Brit, all her choices were magnificent; perfect for her figure and age. Elegant, classic, divinely tailored, yet with a nod to trends. She wore the clothes, not the other way around. Cheeky sense of humor – a plus – and her behavior was always above the crazy fray. Another record.

Cheers,

Daisy
