Chris Bollen: Book Party at SoHo Beach House

It was quite a chic crowd at Christopher Bollen’s book signing party – for his debut novel, “Lightning People” — held at the equally chic SoHo Beach House in Miami Beach. There were designers, fashionistas, some TV personalities and a sprinkling of the art crowd. Bollen who is editor-at-large of “Interview” magazine, tells a story about New York, ironically, filled with fringe characters that probably wouldn’t be allowed into Soho House any time soon.

The novel’s title comes from an odd, meteorological phenomenon that some claim has been occurring since the World Trade Center fell ten years ago. Apparently, lightning has been striking lower points, hitting people on rooftops, resulting in a number of deaths. According to Bollen, September 11th haunts the book and it has definitely overshadowed the last ten years of living there.

Bollen grew up in Ohio dreaming of being artsy in New York like one of the book’s protagonists. A New Yorker for many years now, Bollen is a central figure at the most desirable parties, events, private clubs and, of course, photo ops. The charming author said he was worried that people would tire of yet another New York story but that the response to the novel so far has been positive and exciting. I know I can’t wait to read it!
