“Amigos for Kids” Celeb Domino Night: A Success!

The “ING Miami Celebrity Domino Night” is one of the most popular fundraisers in the Miami society season. It benefits Amigos for Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect by valuing children, strengthening families and educating communities. The organization, co-founded by chairman Jorge Plasencia, also celebrated its 20th anniversary.

How is this gala not like a gala? No black tie, no long speeches, no assigned seating makes for fabulous mingling and a great place to see-and-be-seen. Close to 1800 of Miami’s socially prominent and political and business powerhouses attended this fun bash held at Jungle Island. It was also ING’s seventh year as the event’s title sponsor, and Bacardi USA’s second year as presenting sponsor.

The attire is for a hot night of dancing. The men wear guayabera shirts and women wear sexy, colorful cocktail dresses. And the entertainment is always spectacular. This year, Latin jazz band Pan con Bistec, got the crowd ready for the event’s headliner, Albita, the Grammy & Emmy-winning Cuban-American singer, producer and composer. She had the place jumping! In between, there was even more great dance music by the renowned DJ Irie of the Miami Heat.

Do not be intimidated if you haven’t a clue about playing dominos. Indeed, there were 140 tables of enthusiasts in heated competition, but the main action was on the dance floor! Guests also enjoyed an open bar courtesy of Bacardi USA, including Cuban Ale Hatuey, Grey Goose and Dewars. A silent auction included impressive items like Cuban art, sports memorabilia, fine jewelry and luxury travel.

Some of Miami’s most popular restaurants cooked up a fabulous and plentiful buffet-style dinner that included Half Moon Empanadas, Crazy Fork Catering, Jungle Island, Mena Catering, Paellas R Us, Pasta Factory, Por Fin Restaurant & Lounge, Red Koi Thai & Sushi Lounge, the iconic Versailles Restaurant of course and to top it off, the divine Edda’s Cake designs and a sip of Café Bustelo. No worries, all the dancing burns off the buffet calories.

Can’t wait till next year! www.amigosforkids.org
