It was a long, quiet summer, so I decided to celebrate the official start of our fabulously hectic, Miami society season with an equally fabulous VIP party.
I enlisted the help of my friend, Dr. Alejandro Badia. His recently-completed, beyond-gorgeous, waterfront home on one of the exclusive Venetian Islands seemed to be the perfect setting. Cocktails at sunset and lavish dinner on the rooftop terrace with breathtaking views of the Miami skyline? Yes please. Despite all the hours he spent in surgery, the doctor hit the ground running on the party plans, coming up with an indulgent Spanish feast with appropriately-paired Spanish wines and of course, rivers of champers.
The charming Badia, is a world-renowned orthopedic surgeon (specializing in hands and upper extremities) and is in town a lot more now for his rapidly-growing, private concierge practice. He also created OrthoNow, orthopedic urgent care franchises that are spreading throughout South Florida and the United States faster than you can sprain an ankle. If you throw out your back, wrench a shoulder while working out, break an arm or anything similar, you go to OrthoNow instead of the emergency room or a regular urgent care. This saves hours of waiting or sitting in traffic as you go to different doctors. Everything is in one location. You see an orthopedic specialist immediately, follow up in the same place and also receive state-of-the-art treatments and physical therapy there too. Brilliant!
It was a gorgeous, breezy Miami night with a creme de la creme crowd. Some told vacation stories and others compared plans for all the galas and events to come. At certain points it was more of a reunion with friends who hadn’t seen each other in years, reconnecting. Like the two most important men in my life (aside from my husband, Berns, who was out of town on golf business) my master hairstylist Joseph Olazabal and my Botox master, facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Julio Gallo. #ItTakesABeautyVillage
Our gracious co-host also gave a house tour and it was flawless timing that the home’s genius architect and designer, Diana Boytell was there and joined in. (Her sister Darlene is married to Jorge Pérez, Chairman of Related Group, and as in the Pérez Art Museum Miami). Who else was there: Miguel Sirgado, editor of El Nuevo Herald’s Galeria 305; philanthropists Lourdes Valls and Silvia Rios Fortun; celebrity chef and cookbook author Ana Quincoces; fashion designer Rene Ruiz; finance whiz Carolina Lanao; Daniel Novela, designer of Casa de Novelas menswear; Konrad Janus, Director of Marketing for Saks Fifth Avenue Dadeland; Compass real estate founders Farid Moussallem and Lorene Broc; Timothy Morzenti, GM of Vhernier jewelry; artist Gustavo Novoa and Lily Zanardi, director of Trump International Realty at Trump Doral.
